In this series, I feature my own scenic lith prints in the backgrounds of collectible vintage silhouette pictures that depict finely dressed courting couples. The black silhouettes are reverse painted on convex glass, and often include other details such as trees, birds, elegant gates, or props creating an idyllic environment. In certain light these details cast shadows onto the background adding visual interest to the piece. These momentos of the past sought the nostalgia of the Victorian Age and were sold in variety stores, dime stores, novelty stores, or given as promotional gifts from the 1920's through the early 1950's. In my series I've imagined this couple "The Silhouettes," on numerous adventures together exploring new lands.
